Why your Shopify link in bio loses sales at checkout

The click shows up in your bio tool. It never shows up as an order in Shopify. If that gap sounds familiar, the in-app browser is very likely where the sale went missing.

A story link, a bio link, an ad — whatever drove the tap, the visitor lands inside Instagram’s or TikTok’s own in-app browser, not Safari or Chrome. For a product page that’s just for browsing, that’s barely noticeable. For checkout, it’s where carts quietly die.

What actually breaks

  • Apple Pay and Google Pay don’t render. The express checkout button that would otherwise convert in one tap simply isn’t there, and manual card entry loses most of that traffic.
  • Saved cards and autofill don’t reach in. The webview has its own cookie jar — no password manager, no stored payment details, no “remember me”.
  • The cart doesn’t persist. Session behaviour inside the webview is inconsistent enough that a visitor who leaves and comes back rarely lands where they left off.
  • One link, every country. Without routing, an Italian visitor sees USD pricing and shipping options built for the US — and bounces.

Why your analytics don’t show it

Most bio-link tools report clicks. Shopify reports orders. Nothing in between connects the two, so a link that’s quietly losing 30-40% of its checkouts to the webview looks, from the click count alone, exactly like one that isn’t. You only find the gap by testing the flow yourself, from inside the app, on a real phone.

What to fix, in order

What matters for a checkout flow specifically.
  • Get the tap out of the webview first. Everything else is secondary if the wallet never renders.
  • Route by market. Send each country or language to the storefront built for it.
  • Connect the click to the order. Without that link, you’re optimising blind.
A prettier product page fixes nothing if the visitor never reaches a browser where the wallet actually works. Start with the escape, not the design.

How Linkamy fits

  • Every link hands the tap to Safari or Chrome — automatic on Android, one tap on iOS — where Apple Pay, saved cards and 3-D Secure all work.
  • Country and language routing sends each market to its own storefront (Pro and Growth).
  • Shopify conversion tracking connects the click that started the visit to the order it produced.

Free to start, no card. If checkout completion looks lower from social than from anywhere else, this is usually why.
